Quick cleaning on the go

A clean microfiber cloth is ideal for quickly cleaning your glasses when you are out and about. It is best to always carry the glasses cleaning cloth with you so that you can remove dust and dirt from the lenses and the frame at any time and always have a perfect view. However, when it comes to stubborn fingerprints on the lenses, normal microfiber cloths, which you get for free when you buy glasses, for example, have their limits. Here you can use the Sweyepe cleaning finger cot or one of our Supersoft Display microfiber cloths . You can also use a glasses spray. Please always make sure that the glasses spray does not contain alcohol. You should also not use glasses cleaning cloths that contain alcohol too often, as this could damage the coating on the glasses.

Thorough cleaning with water and detergent

At home, you can clean your glasses under running water with a drop of mild detergent (not gentle on the skin, as the balm it contains forms a greasy film) . Put a drop of detergent on each lens and rub it in carefully with your fingers. You should also clean the frame and nose pad at the same time, as skin oil often accumulates there. Then rinse off the detergent with lukewarm water. Make sure that the water is not too hot, as this could damage the coating on the glasses. Finally, it is best to rub the glasses and the frame with our cleaning finger cot or one of our Supersoft Display microfiber cloths. You should apply little pressure and dry the glasses in circular movements. If you hold the glasses with your index finger and thumb, the bridge is less stressed and the glasses do not warp as quickly. Rimless glasses are ideally held by the edge to avoid too much tension.

The supreme discipline: cleaning glasses with ultrasound

The most comfortable and thorough way to care for your glasses is to use an ultrasonic device at home or at the optician. Microfine vibrations in the ultrasonic device create small vacuum bubbles that gently remove dirt from the frame and lenses in just a few minutes. You can buy ultrasonic devices online or in stores for as little as €10. Since these are not suitable for all frames, you should discuss with your optician beforehand whether your glasses can be cleaned in an ultrasonic bath without any problems. If you don't want to buy your own ultrasonic device, you should have your glasses cleaned with ultrasound at the optician twice a year. This is usually a free service. Even if your glasses are very dirty, you should always take them to an optician.

Summary:

  • Do not use an inferior microfiber cloth
  • Running, lukewarm water
  • Ultrasound devices are recommended
  • To the optician in case of heavy soiling

What you should avoid when cleaning

Do not use aggressive cleaning agents as these will attack the surface of the plastic lenses. Tissues, kitchen paper, towels or even the sleeve of a sweater are also unsuitable for cleaning. Dust and dirt particles can scratch the lenses or create streaks - the surface "goes blind" over time. Dirty cleaning cloths should no longer be used to clean glasses. When you rub your glasses dry after cleaning, avoid applying too much pressure so that the frame does not warp or the high-quality coating does not come off.

Summary:

  • NO aggressive cleaning agents
  • NO clothes, tissues, kitchen paper, towels
  • DO NOT reuse dirty glasses cleaning cloths
  • AVOID too much pressure

Proper storage of your glasses

Ideally, you should store your glasses in the glasses case provided to avoid scratches and damage to the lenses and frame. Always place the lenses on the padded side of the case. It is different if you put the glasses down outside of the case: make sure that you always put your glasses down on the temples and never on the lenses. This will prevent damage to the surface of the glass. When you take your glasses off, use both hands to avoid applying pressure to one side. This is especially important for glasses without spring hinges.

Your glasses don't belong here

Don't put your glasses in your shirt, jacket or trouser pocket without a case! This will prevent them from getting scratched, warped or broken. Even if it looks chic, don't put your glasses or sunglasses in your hair, as this can damage the coating and the frame can quickly become warped. Don't jam your glasses into the neckline of your sweater or shirt pocket.

Can you wash glasses cleaning cloths?

The Sweyepe cleaning finger cot can be washed and reused up to 100 times! Unlike the free glasses cleaning cloths that come with the product, the Sweyepe fabric does not lose its performance as long as you wash it gently.

Do not wash anti-fog cloths!

The anti-fog glasses cleaning cloth prevents your glasses from fogging up. Glasses fog up quickly, especially in the winter months or when you have to wear a mask. This is where an anti-fog cloth helps. However, this should not be washed, as washing will remove the coating on the cloth. If your cloth is dirty, we recommend buying a new anti-fog cloth.
